Nordica

Overview

Location: 55 km SE of Timmins, Ontario.
Size: 3168 ha (198 units, 22 claims)
Target Minerals: Nickel, Gold, Platinum, Palladium, Chromite
  • In light of the recent chromite discoveries in the McFaulds Lake area west of Attawapiscat, the chromite bearing horizon should be further investigated to determine whether there is any strike or depth potential to the system.

Regional Exploration and Production

Mineralization at the Nordica Prospect appears to occur within a layered mafic -- ultramafic intrusion which has been intruded by a granitic intrusion as well as diabase sills or dikes. The mineralization is of two types: 1) apparently stratiform chromium mineralization within a <1-3m wide chromite-bearing horizon that extends along strike for at least 35 meters; and 2) possible anomalous PGM mineralization that occurs as spotty sulfide disseminations within the gabbro/leucogabbro unit that may extend up to 180 meters. To the east and south, the mineralization appears to be cut off by the granitic intrusion; to the west, the extent of both mineralized horizons remains unknown.

Other Local Exploration

The property lies 55 km southeast of Timmins, a prolific gold producing camp with. The property also lies approximately 24 kilometers southeast of Langmuir Township, a well known nickel belt with 4 known nickel deposits and GCR's recent W4 nickel discovery. Over 67 million ounces of gold produced in the Timmins camp as well as host to the Kidd Creek VMS Deposit and several nickel producing mines.

Property Geology

The Nordica Property, held by Sedex Mining Corporation, is located 32 kilometers south of Matheson, Ontario. It is comprised of twenty two unpatented mining claims (3,175 Hectares) in northwest Nordica Township, northeast Michie Township, southwest McEvay Township and southeast Timmins Township.

The property occurs within a metavolcanic and sedimentary belt of rocks intruded by mafic-ultramafic bodies. A 2001 report by the Ontario Geological Survey concluded that in addition to gold and volcanogenic massive sulphide mineralization within the general area, there is a high potential for Platinum Group Metals (PGM), such as platinum and palladium, or Nickel-Copper-PGM deposits related to layered mafic-ultramafic intrusions such as the layered Nordica intrusion that occurs on the property. A site visit by company geologists and Professor George Hudak, PhD, confirmed the presence of a chromite bearing horizon and possible PGM mineralization.

Work Completed to Date

On November 9, 2008 a preliminary assessment of selected outcrops on the Nordica Prospect (Sedex Mining Corp) was conducted. Two geologists representing Sedex Mining Corporation (Kevin Montgomery, George Hudak) conducted the assessment. They were accompanied by Gary Windsor (prospector).
